I do appreciate the efforts of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the group that organized Earth Hour and those who participated on the said event. I just want to let other people who are not from Philippines know that in our country, we don't just switch off our lights once a year, we do it daily! In General Santos, (Manny Pacman's hometown), there's no electricity 6-9pm everyday. IN Polomolok, South Cotabato, the situatio is similar, 3x a day, no electricity. In Zamboanga City, (my mother went there recently), there's a limited supply of water too. :|
As of March 4, rotational brownout in Davao City is extended from one hour to two hours. Pasalamat, not as frequent ang electricity shortage sa among place diri sa Davao.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? "Davao Light Corporate Communications Officer Ross Luga said the increase in the duration of the outages is due to the much reduced generation capacity of the hydro electric plants in Lake Lanao in Lanao del Sur and Pulangi River in Bukidnon as advised by the National Grid Corporation of the Phils. (NGCP). This is the result of the already very critical water elevation level of the lake and decreasing water inflow in Pulangi River. This condition at the major power sources has forced the NGCP to increase its load curtailment to Davao Light."
