Tuesdays with Morrie

Dear Tonsilitis, my every swallow is a struggle. Thanks to you. While having difficulty of speaking, here's what keeps me busy.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Summary: Newspaper columnist Mitch Albom recounts his time spent with his 78 year old sociologyprofessor at Brandies University, Morrie Shwartz, who was dying from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Albom, a former student of Schwartz, had not corresponded with him since attending his college classes sixteen years earlier. The first three chapters begin with: an ambiguous introduction to the final conversation between Albom and Schwartz, a brief flashback to Albom's graduation 20 years earlier, and a brief recount of the events Albom experiences between his graduation and the point where he becomes prompted to return to his professor.

Tuesdays with Morrie, some quotes to share:

"Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live."

"As you grow old, you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you'd always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth. It's more than the negative that you're going to die, its also the positive that you understand you're going to die, and that you live a better life because of it."

"The truth is, you don't get satisfaction from those things. You know what really gives you satisfaction? ...Offering others what you have to give."

"Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others."

"Death ends a life, not a relationship."

"If you're trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you're trying to shoff off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will envy you. Status will get you nowhere "

Earth HourS

Earth Hour and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

I do appreciate the efforts of
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the group that organized Earth Hour and those who participated on the said event. I just want to let other people who are not from Philippines know that in our country, we don't just switch off our lights once a year, we do it daily! In General Santos, (Manny Pacman's hometown), there's no electricity 6-9pm everyday. IN Polomolok, South Cotabato, the situatio is similar, 3x a day, no electricity. In Zamboanga City, (my mother went there recently), there's a limited supply of water too. :|

As of March 4, rotational brownout in Davao City is extended from one hour to two hours. Pasalamat, not as frequent ang electricity shortage sa among place diri sa Davao.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? "Davao Light Corporate Communications Officer Ross Luga said the increase in the duration of the outages is due to the much reduced generation capacity of the hydro electric plants in Lake Lanao in Lanao del Sur and Pulangi River in Bukidnon as advised by the National Grid Corporation of the Phils. (NGCP). This is the result of the already very critical water elevation level of the lake and decreasing water inflow in Pulangi River. This condition at the major power sources has forced the NGCP to increase its load curtailment to Davao Light.
"

Blessing ang Ulan.

Guess most Filipinos nowadays appreciate more the importance of electricity.

Pearl Farm Adventure II

Ooops! di pa pala ako tapos magkwento.

While waiting for the speed boat to take us to Manipalo ISland, I played chess with my imaginary opponent. (hehe). Look how big it is! =)

We used a boat smaller than this one. Speed boats regularly travel every 30 minutes transporting at most 6 people from one island to another. I really had a great time riding it because i can barely touch the water, letting the waves go against my palms.

In Manipalo Island, ahhh... the blue crystal water, such a breathetaking experience, I wish my mother was here to see this beautiful place. Soon, when i'm rich enough, I'll travell the world with her. Must mention, don't mind me in the photo, and just to make it clear, i'm not pregnant, that's because of the wind blowing that makes my stomach protruding, enough with the defense. =)

The color of the sky complements with the sea. My sister and I fooling around. What a Happy day!

We found a beautiful view in the island, I love the photo, pwede pang post card. =)

After the site seeing under the extreme heat of the sun, we went back to the main island to eat our lunch. Starving lah!

To be continued... (It's lunch break^^)

Yo no hablar espanol

I told you.

I dont speak Spanish.

GLEEk

To those who are saying that Glee and High school musical are identical, they are dead wrong because glee is far better than the latter. You see, both are quite similar but what makes glee more interesting is because of the humor, twist and turns which people can easily get relate, can get hooked to it.

First, there’s stereotyping with each type of personality that commonly found in high school. We got cheerleader, varsity players, the side kicks of the poplars, the mediocre, the ones that are at the bottom, the geeky, the class, the people who don’t really exist, and those people who have very strong belief on themselves but in a way they look amusing and unappreciated by their peer.

Take the case of Rachel, she is the lead star and the captain of glee club. When you say the star, you would expect that she’s totally likable like Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron of High School Musical, they seemed to be a perfect couple, but in Rachel, she has the talent, she’s a very good singer, when she’s on the stage she owns the moment, however, big HOWEVER, she has strong belief on her self in a way her confidence is inappropriate, annoying at times. Her wide mouth, (I’m sorry, it’s not being mean, I’m just being objective), also her long eyebrows, showing that sad puppy look when ever she sings are disturbing, Somehow, that gave me a hate and like approach on her that’s why I want to see more of her.

Talking about singing and dancing, Superb! In real life, these people are into the music, and the best actors in the world are from boardway, when they act, their whole body is acting, form eyes, lips, thumbs up! Although some of them are new, there performance is very commendable, when they have group performance and do the blending, it always blow me away. When they sang” lean me”, I was like, that’s it, I’m a fan!

Another thing I like about glee is that they have representation on different races. There’s Asian, and other Asian (when you’re watching I know what I’m talking about), Jews, Latino, Black and White. Seeing these people combining, singing together, that would capture the attention of the people. Making this series not solely a hit only in America, this is a highly pandemic craze!

Don’t get fooled like Finn’s friend, Women don’t have prostate gland. :D

Aint pencil pusher

What is the message of the bad effects of music to the youth.

Music plays a vital role in an individual and in our society. It is also called as the language of one’s soul, since it can affect, reflect and convey emotions, philosophies and desires.

Whether someone is living in a fast track like in the cities or living in a smooth pace like in rural areas, music can be a great source of relaxation from stress. Also, it can be a medium of self expression and through the lyrics and tune, people can relay to others what they cannot say in normal conversations. For the society, music can be used to aware people on hot issues and serves as a tool to unite them on one stand and opinion.

However, despite these good effects of music, it is not proper to neglect its negative effects and doing nothing to aid problems related to music. The fact that most of the youngsters are curious and carefree, there is a great chance that they would try to mimic and put into actions based on what they hear. Music therefore can become a bad influence to the young generation because it is highly likely that it will jeopardize their beings and destroy their futures.

In my point of view, based on my experiences, music has far more good than bad effects. Thus, I believe the benefits outweigh the negative sides. However, people must be guided on what type of music they listen to, and artists should be responsible enough on the consequences of their chosen craft.

Above is my academic essay for IELTS (International English Language Test). To tell you honestly, writing for me is the most difficult among the four areas (listening, reading, and speaking), i rarely get 7. Ironically I own a blog site.

Not all smart people are good in English and not all that are good in English are smart. Not all famous bloggers are good in writing and not all good writers are famous. Not all lurkers like readings, most of them want to write but does not have the motivation to do so. My friends, to which do we belong?

There is a big difference between writing an academic essays and writing a blog.

In IELTS, grammar must be perfect, tenses must me consistent and accurate, must have variety of sentence structures (simple, compound, complex, and compound complex), showing off vocabulary but in a way that the message should be brief and easily understood, also it should present heavy arguments, ideas and evidences, colloquial and use of idioms are not encourage, you are force to write about a topic that in reality, you don’t really give a fuss… what else? The bottom line, it must be perfect.

In Ielts, it is dull and strict.

In blogging, there is no a-must-thing to follow at all, carefree, liberated, fun, wild, freestyle and sexy.

Sexy?

I easily get depressed.
I easily get cheered up.

Story behind the photo: I took this in a convenience store. While arranging eggs for this photo, a salesman was staring at me, probably he thought i lost my sanity.

If you think you're smart enough, think again

Dear BSNs, ganito na daw ang mga type of questions sa next board exam...and whenever what number ka ma-gameover, yun na ang board rating mo!

Kidding aside, you have to try this guys.

TIPS:
Don't Over analyze.
Think weird.
Have fun! :)

Try to beat the quiz by answering all of the questions. It's as simple as that! or is it...?

The questions are far from easy. Some require insane logic others are completely down to guessing. It's hard but it's not IMPOSSIBLE!

The Impossible Quiz!

My favorite question! kalurky! :D

A note from the bulletin board

What’s wrong wild the world momma?

Earthquake in Haiti and Chile, El Nino, National Rotational Brownout, Extra heat in temperature during cool season, has the world gone mad?

Worse

Relationships that were established are gradually falling apart.

I just can’t understand what’s going on, one thing for sure, I don’t like it.

Although I am constantly exposed to uncomfortable situations, I will never get used to it.

My mum instructed me to go to mass that was said offered for me.

Honestly, I came late, and when I arrived the priest was saying he last few words from the Gospel. He said,” Jesus is waiting, waiting for his daughter, waiting for his daughter to embrace her”, and it made me think, is that message really for me? I was late, and I kept Jesus waiting, when I went in the church, did he embrace me? Did he cleanse my mind? I would like to believe so.

In that night, I received a message from a friend;

A note from the bulletin board:

Do not be totally heavily worried of everything wrong that is going around you.

That’s my job

Singed: Jesus

Youngcampbell became a fan of. . .

I have died 147 times for not having forwarded those chain E-mails.

I'm not weird, I'm just different to you.

You hate me, oh that's weird because I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU.

Awkward conversations with the person you like, About the person they like.

You're not sorry you did it, You're sorry I found out.

Wow, you just battered me with your keyboard, now say that to my face?

"Imma tell you one time", Liar. You said that at least 25 times

I have come to realize the importance of school, but still i hate it!

That awkward moment when you glance at someone staring at you.

Your day would be so hard if you forgot your...Handkerchief!

I say I'm okay when the truth is I'm not :|

Hi, I wasted a very long time liking you.

I forgive but never forget.

Looking down at your cellphone to avoid someone walking by.

As early as Monday, you're already looking forward to the weekend!

When i lose--"Who cares it's only a game". When I win--"HAHA in your face!"

Making eye contact with attractive strangers.

I am always tired, because I become a superhero at night.

I am wearing headphones, do not talk to me!

What are you suppose to do when everyone is singing Happy birthday to you?

You caught me staring at you, but I caught you staring back.

I'm old enough to know better, I just don't care.

Cliche

Cliche [klee shay]
noun

1.overused expression: a phrase or word that has lost its original effectiveness or power from overuse

2. overused idea: an overused activity or notion

Source: Encarta Dictionary

The most common cliche I use is every thing happens for a reason.

In my own language, some cliches are psychological subconscious defense mechanisms in which a person is having a strong belief that a certain notion is true. When things go wrong, I would always believe that it happens for a reason, when a door closes, the windows will open, regardless if that event happened because of my own stupidity or because it is how it is destined to happen. I am not really completely convince that there is a good reason behind any horrible event, I am just open to possibilities that maybe there are really good reasons. BASTA LANG. XD

So far, using this defense mechanism is quite effective, nasty situations can't easily break me nor make me less person, It makes me feel better.

pinilakang tabing

This is my life: old, musty, and falling apart.

Additional Course or CURSE?

I just came home when My friend sent me a message, inquiring if I am interested to become a medical transcriptionist. It was in December, the time when I was so frustrated for being not prolific. Boredom Kills. Ergo, with no doubt in my mind, I immediately went to Global School to take the entrance examination. The written test was quite fine, but the transcription was challenging It was like I’m listening to a drunk man dictating in Greek.

It was the first time that the school had Saturday-only class, normally they conduct daily 4-hour class. I was thinking that the schedule will give me an ace on my sleeve by the reason of I can engage into some other things during weekdays. But it didn’t turn out as I expected.

When I started this medical transcription training, I pledge to my self that I will make a commitment, finish the course and get a license. I applied for two jobs and this training had caused a great conflict in my schedule. It’s quite difficult to look for a part time job nowadays, I felt like I am strangled with this commitment and even consider this additional course as a curse.

This medical transcription training/class is sponsored by the government. I want to have a clean record, furthermore, I believe, career wise, its an edge to be affiliated with the government. That is the main reason that kept on running in my head, pulling me, not to quit.

The good side with this is that the tuition is for free and must mention, the government gives allowance. *big smile What I like more is that the whole experience of going back to school does not give any pressure, the subjects were all light (tulog tulogan lang. honestly I did not took the class seriously : | ) My classmates, (most of them are way older than me) are really interesting to be with. Some of them work in a bank, others in Local Judicial Court as stenographer. With them, I learned to be mature and cautious on my words and actions (just as my mum always tell me).

Last week, I passed my Competency Examination. Written exam was quite challenging though, I was asked CHOP is a treatment for what? Another Greek word, Gee! The only CHOP I know is porkCHOP. (mais, nyaha!) Kidding aside, I was satisfied with my rating and even got surprise with my accuracy rate on transcription. (was it for real? Or nalibat lang ko?). When I had my interview, I was really doubtful if I will pass because I gave my interviewer wrong answer, when I figured my mistake, I took the strategy Milay taught me, “act like your really curious and indirectly ask the correct answer”. It end up, the interviewer lecturing me and my classic line was, “Im really pleased that you shared that information to me, points will be taken ma’am”. Whew! We can escape plight with dignity my dear people.

Since I’m earning money from Global School, I consider going to class as a job.

I bought a box of Doughnut for my family from my (technically) first salary.

Don’t Judge! Haha!

Oh well, ALL's WELL THAT ENDS WELL
